A hand up, not a hand out
...lives are changed
Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to not only build houses for people in need,
but to help give them a stepping stone to a better life.
Through no-interest home loans, our families are given the opportunity to
attain the American Dream of owning their own home. Payments are small allowing
them to further their education, or giving them the option of working fewer
jobs in order to spend more time with their family.
One of the most unique foundations of the Habitat for Humanity program is the
requirement that each Habitat homeowner spends 300 or more hours of “sweat
equity” working on their own house or another Habitat home. By working
alongside community volunteers, corporate work teams and church groups, Habitat
families learn the joy of giving to others, practical skills that will help in
everyday living, confidence in their own abilities, and problem-solving skills
to help them work through difficult situations.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization and we desire to help our
families grow in their faith. Our families consider their selection as a new
homeowner a blessing and every hour of volunteer labor a gift of love.
Once complete, their home is something they treasure and respect because it was
something they helped to build with their own two hands.
The joy of giving of yourself
...lives are changed
There are many volunteers, businesses and contributors who make Habitat homes
possible. They are the foundation and the heart upon which our organization is
built.
Volunteers from all walks of life are part of the Habitat for Humanity team. We
welcome volunteers who have specialized building skills, along with adults who
have general construction knowledge and kids who desire to learn and help
others.
Our volunteers work alongside soon-to-be-homeowners during construction, going
through the joys and the difficulties of this process with them. They get to
know the homeowners and realize the impact the gift of their time has on their
lives.
Habitat is a great organization for children to get involved with. They not
only get the opportunity to help people in need, but they get to see the fruits
of their own labor. They build confidence in what they are able to do with
their own hands. They learn problem-solving skills that teach them how to work
through life’s challenges.
Whether you can work one hour, one day, or through the entire construction
process on a new home, you will find your time spent giving to Habitat for
Humanity is rewarding and fulfilling.
A community working together
...lives are changed
Ardmore Habitat for Humanity is built on community involvement. We desire to
bring communities together, to help new homeowners see the difference that each
person can make in their own community, to help communities see the difference
that improving individual lives can make in the community as a whole.
There are so many ways in which you can become a part of the Habitat for
Humanity community:
-
volunteering to help with
· general construction
· specialized construction (electrical, roofing, plumbing, etc)
· the Cans for Habitat Recycling Program
-
donating items to support construction of a new home
-
making a monthly financial commitment to give
-
making a one-time contribution
-
donating materials which we can sell in our quarterly garage sales
-
putting together a corporate work team
In whatever way you choose to support Habitat for Humanity, you are also
choosing to give back to your own community...
...and lives are changed.
